South African born Delon Govender, the son of a banker and a mum who repped World Book Encyclopaedia, graduated with a Bachelor of Art in Fine Art at the University of Durban Westville in 1999 in South Africa. Delon was sought after for portrait commission work during and post-university as his keen observation skills and attention to detail was second to none. His love of nature and the great outdoors has been a constant inspiration in his art. His work oftentimes is a reflection of a time and place in his life with Africa being depicted quite often. He explored the rich tapestry of the African communities and culture - the result was an early collection of artwork that captured this brilliantly with his clever use of vibrant colour - these artworks were full of life; they drew you in on the journey that he was on - it told a part of his life story. African wildlife featured in many of his artworks as well and these sold as quickly as they were created.
Delon is an artist who embraces many types of artistic expression that amply and effectively lets him channel his creative thoughts, ideas, and energies, honing in on his attention to detail, to produce the varied artistic visuals that he puts out there - he's confident and comfortable whether using a paintbrush, oil or water paint, a stick of chalk, a pencil or charcoal. He kept up with the fast-paced digital era, that we were plunged so rapidly into, with the use of computers as a new means of artistic expression graduating as a graphic and web designer in Western Australia.
Combining his artistic knowledge and experience with graphic design, in 2007 Delon worked as a storyboard artist and matte painter in the three-part dramatised series, "Air Australia" - A Film Australia National Interest Program in association with Vue DC produced with the assistance of ScreenWest, Lotterywest and the ABC for which he received an AFI nomination in the category "Best Visual Effects Artist Australia 2007". "I never set out to take the perfect photo; often a pic taken is that spontaneous pic of a moment - a beautiful trek, witnessing beautiful creatures - its the journey - and if you think the pic is cool, the journey - is the adventure! " Piloting drones was another passion for years as it was a quiet literally a Birds Eye view of the journey that day!
Delon's art ranges far and wide in both private and public collections - Australia, Africa and the Republic of Ireland. He has worked on both private and community mural projects - from a privately commissioned penthouse in Perth to the heart of the Northbridge cultural precinct.
Delon’s art evolved to include contemporary abstract paintings with Australian landscapes being a huge inspiration in recent years. His latest body of abstract art is artistic expression resonating energies, vibrations and frequencies to promote personal growth, self discovery and healing. It is when a combination of colour, texture, and surface come together to create a deeply immersive transcendent experience.
This form of mixed media collage abstract art uses no recognisable imagery to influence the viewers perceptions. Unbound by traditional forms, this form of vibrational art creates a medium to elevate the viewers own truth by providing a focal point to reconnect and recharge the spirit. His paintings create a positive uplifting addition to any space — it provides a doorway transporting the viewer into a state of heightened consciousness… a journey of the mind.
